Club Awards 2022

Reivers Awards 2022

Each year the club celebrates those who embody the Reivers spirit the most. Nominations are invited from across the club with every member able to vote.

Road Captain of the Year

This Cup is awarded to the Ride Leader who, in the opinion of the Club Members, has contributed most to ensuring that well led Club Rides take place on a regular period. The winner will have shown an outstanding empathy for other riders, guiding them diligently and safely throughout the Year.

2022 : Mally Armstrong

A fantastic ride leader with a selfless attitude. On his own 'Tuesday Pensioners Specials' he always rides with the slowest group and ensures that no rider is dropped. He ensures that group sizes are appropriate for safe riding and is incredibly supportive of any riders lacking confidence.

Mally is a calm, highly respected, diplomatic and assertive ride leader; he will speak to people if he feels they are putting anyone’s safety at risk or negatively affecting a ride in any way and is appropriate & tactful in doing so. Mally is clearly really well liked and regarded. His rides are very well supported because he works hard to ensure that they’re well organised, suitable & enjoyable for everyone taking part.

Outstanding Achievement

This Cup is awarded to the Reiver who has demonstrated the highest level of determination and greatest achievement throughout the year. The winner will have shown true Reiver Spirit by riding further, higher whilst still maintaining a sense of humour.

2022: Babs Drinkwater

Babs progression this year has been spectacular! A member since the club started, there were a couple of years when Babs was a cheery, supportive but non-cycling member. This year has seen her not just return to green but move up to blue and now occasionally red proving that progression is possible, no matter your age.

To call Babs enthusiastic is putting it mildly. If there is a ride posted, Babs will be there, becoming a stalwart of unofficial and official rides in all weathers - even having a go at time trialling this year! She is a popular group rider, supporting ride leaders and helping to keep the peloton organised. This regular and enthusiastic cycling has seen bags full of PRs and anyone who she cycled with can always be assured they will receive a cheery, enthusiastic Strava comment afterwards.

Palace Cycles Shield for Reiver of the Year

This Shield is awarded to the Club Member who has demonstrated throughout the year a selfless commitment to ensure that the Club's interests and reputation are maintained to the highest standard. The winner of this award, will be considered by their peers, to have given the most time and energy to the Club.

2022 : Barry Drinkwater

Barry has excelled in his selfless giving of time and energy to the club. Takes part in all levels of club ride, circuit racing, TTs and is a great ambassador for the club as well as probably being the most improved rider in the club this year. His efforts with the website and forum have not gone unnoticed and the efforts he has made to get everyone "on board".
